The Two Tunnels Greenway - Work Begins! (8 Mar 2010)

Monday 8 March 2010 was an historic day for cyclists and walkers in Bath. After several years of false starts a group gathered to celebrate work beginning on the Two Tunnels Greenway. In particular the digging out of the north portal of the short Devonshire Tunnel at the end of Linear Park. By making use of two disused rail tunnels the project is expected to deliver a virtually flat five-mile walking and cycling route from Bath to the NCN24 path at Midford. The two tunnels burrow under the very hilly Bath landscape, making cycling much more feasible. The much longer Combe Down tunnel is locked but accessible from both ends. This had an open day in 2009, some pictures of which can be seen on this link. Also, walks of the entire route (minus the tunnels) are also run on a regular basis. One such walk is documented on this link.
