Kellianna and Matthew at Stanton Drew - 25 Jul 2008

On Friday 25 July I collected Kellianna from Glastonbury and we made for Stanton Drew, about half an hour away. The weather forecast had not been the best but things turned out fine, with the only rain being during the car journey home. We started with an initial tour of the stones, walking through the Great Circle to the North East Circle and then on to the South West Circle in another field. From there we made our way to the Druid’s Arms for a spot of lunch, before entering the garden to view the three stones that make up the Cove. Returning to the monument’s car park we collected our drums and changed into our performing clothes. The rest of the event was then videod by Mikesey from Glastonbury. We drummed our way to the North East Circle and then spoke to some people who were already present. They sounded very interested in what we were doing and they stayed on to watch for a bit. I gave them my card as they showed an interest in the public gorsedds that take place at this and other sites. We then filmed a succession of bardic performances, such as me reading my poems to the beat of Kellianna’s drum and her own solo performances of chant and song. All performances took place in various parts of the North East Circle and just beyond. With plenty of performances in the can the sky began to darken and we decided to call it a day. It had been an excellent visit, with the site to ourselves for much of the time, as well as unexpectedly good weather. Please find below three videos and a selection of photos.
