I posted this report to the Chalice Well Yahoo! Group on 21 June 2007:

This is a report from a couple of the Litha/Sumer Solstice events I
attended in Glastonbury today. I got up at 03:30 to be in Glastonbury
for about 04:10. I was on top of the Tor at around 04:30. Several
hundred people were present - some had been there all night judging by
the tents and litter. This being the high point of the year's
energies, things were rather chaotic. The druids ran one event with
spoken words and toning. An ancient Mayan fire ritual with drumming
and chanting occurred slightly lower down the Tor. Outside of these
two events people were doing their own thing in terms of conversation
or playing instruments. The threatened rain never arrived but heavy
cloud meant the sunrise was not witnessed during the rituals. There
are 12 Tor photos on the link below.

Later that day I collected 70 litres of water from the red and white
springs and then entered Chalice Well for the midday event. I didn't
think I was late but there was already a large crowd gathered in
silence around the Wellhead. As such it didn't feel right to be taking
a lot of photos. So there are only three from this event on the link
below. Things went very quiet in the afternoon and it felt like that I
almost had the place to myself! I was drawn to photograph the path of
water down the site. So the link below has been expanded with seven
other photographs from the day - the Wellhead, the revitalised
Sanctuary, a glass filling at the Lion's Head, the waterfall and rill
in Arthur's Courtyard, the flow forms feeding the Vesica Piscis pool
and the water snaking across the lawn to the lower bathing pool. Not
having any people in them they have a kind calendar or PR quality
about them.

Back to the meditation, this was conducted by Nicholas Mann and
Natasha Wardle, who took it in turns to guide the group with words
about the Solstice and the importance of this time. There was a lot of
time for reflection and Natasha sang a wonderful song. At the end
Natasha asked if there were any contributions from the group in the
forms of songs, poems or words. I read out my eight-verse Summer
Solstice poetry, with some of the verses linking directly with things
that Nicholas had said earlier. Once everything was complete there was
a chance to chat with old friends and new. Overall, a very different
event to the one that was held last year but one that seemed to be
appreciated by all.
