Gauntlet Day 2009, with Glastonburyradio.net and Tasmin Archer (4 Jul 2009)

A celebration of the second anniversary of Glastonbury's premier shopping thoroughfare - The Gauntlet - was held on 4 July 2009. The theme for this year’s celebration of the double award-winning complex was pirates. There was a prize for the best-dressed pirate and there was a treasure hunt in the local area. Pirates were fighting outside the Gauntlet entrance in the High Street, dropping regular hints about the day. And the Glastonbury Town Crier did his bit. It was also the launch of the Gauntlet Sausage and it was possible to bid to have your favourite Glastonbury baddie put in the stocks. Doug Hill opened the event by cracking open the champagne. The chosen charity for the day was Make A Wish, an organisation that helps to grant the wishes of dying children, both with experiences and purchases. Glastonburyradio.net was broadcasting live from St. John’s carpark, with initial live sets from Mark Kelly and Lenny Savage. Many of the station’s favourite presenters took part in the live broadcast, including Ross Hemsworth (Now That’s Weird and Moaning Old Gits), Graham Harcus (Jazzy Gee and Three Gs), Trevor Jones (Glastonbury Today and Witching Hour) and Liz Williams (Witching Hour). Penny from Make A Wish also came on-stage to talk about the work of the charity. Topping the bill was Tasmin Archer, who had been good enough to travel down from the North of England. She played an excellent set of five tracks. Emergency (from the album ON), After Hell (from the album Bloom) and Halfway to Heaven, In Your Care and, of course, Sleeping Satellite (all from the album Great Expectations). "Tasmin Archer The Best Of" was due out on 20 July 2009. Local artist Paul was documenting the event and his rapidly produced pictures could be bid for. Raffle tickets had been sold throughout the session and the draw was made on the radio. Many local businesses had generously donated prizes, including an Imp Radio and an iPod Nano. Overall, everyone had an excellent day and some useful funds were raised for Make A Wish. Thanks to all those involved, especially Tasmin for travelling such a long way. Two videos and 40 pictures are shown below.

Update 26 Aug 2009: Two videos added showing the songs "After Hell", "In Your Care" and "Sleeping Satellite".

Update 10 Mar 2011: Photo added.
