Essential Facts

Preparing for the treatment

  • Advise Matthew if you have diabetes, a serious mental condition, unset broken bones, a pacemaker or transplant organs.
  • If you've not done so already, download and complete the application form available from the Get In Touch page.
  • Think about the things you'd like to include in your intent (otherwise use 'Best Health, Highest Good').
  • Drink a small amount of water before you leave home.
  • Make sure you're not under the influence of alcohol.
  • Be prepared to remove jewellery - especially anything on your hands/wrists.
  • Advise Matthew about any artificial aids such as contact lenses or hearing aids.
  • Raise any points of concern or observations if you've had previous treatments.

During the treatment

  • The session will last for up to an hour and half, with the hands-on element taking around an hour.
  • 12 five-minute hand positions are used, as well as some some shorter ones to draw the energy down the body.
  • Everyone has a different experience under Reiki and the energy could show up as heat, cold, vibrations, waves of energy or pins and needles.
  • No promises can be made for Reiki but you can be assurred that the energy will always be working for your highest good.
  • You are welcome to talk with Matthew during the treatment, although many recipients prefer to remain silent.

After the treatment

  • Mention any sensations or images that have not cropped up in previous sessions.
  • If you're diabetic, you must check your blood sugar level.
  • Book your next session if you feel inclined!
  • Drive carefully - you will probably be very relaxed when you leave the session.
  • Drink around a pint of water when you return home, otherwise you may experience nausia and/or a headache.
